King’s Lynn drink-driver Aswin Krishnan test-drove new car while over the limit

A man was caught test-driving his new car after having a few drinks prior to repairing it.

Aswin Krishnan, of Tennyson Avenue in Lynn, appeared at the town’s magistrates’ court on Thursday, where he admitted drink-driving, as well as driving without a licence or insurance.

Krishnan, 22, was spotted driving along Vancouver Avenue on November 10 before pulling up outside a home on the street and going inside.

Police saw Krishnan emerge from the building, get back in the red Fiat Punto and drive off again.

They pulled him over, and a breath test confirmed he had been drink-driving. Krishnan was arrested and taken to Lynn’s Police Investigation Centre.

A reading of 73mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath came back, more than double the legal limit of 35mcg.

In mitigation, solicitor Andrew Cogan told the court that Krishnan had only purchased the car that day and had carried out some repairs to it, but had a couple of drinks before doing so.

“He needed to check out the repairs, so he drove it a short distance,” Mr Cogan said.

“He fully cooperated with the police and told them he had no licence or insurance.”

Mr Cogan said that Krishnan will most likely lose out on agency work as a carer after committing these offences.

He was disqualified from driving for 20 months and fined £120.

He will also have to pay a £48 victim surcharge and £55 in court costs.
