Youngsters from 14th King’s Lynn Cub Scouts enjoy visit from MP

Curious Cub Scouts posed ‘thoughtful questions’ during a visit from their local MP.

To mark Parliament Week, North West Norfolk MP James Wild visited the 14th Scout and Guide headquarters in North Wootton to meet the Cub Scouts and tell them about the role of parliament.

Mr Wild gave the youngsters an insight into parliament’s main functions before they got involved in some interactive activities.

He helped them explore the three branches of government, led a discussion on options for their Christmas party, and oversaw a vote – enabling them to get an idea of how decisions are made in practice.

There was a question and answer session at the end when the Cubs asked ‘thoughtful’ questions about how parliament influences their neighbourhood and the decisions that affect them.

Parliament Week is an annual UK-wide initiative that encourages people, particularly young people, to learn more about parliament and how they can get involved in the democratic process.

Following his visit, Mr Wild said: “It was a pleasure to spend the evening with the Cubs at North Wootton.

“Their curiosity and thoughtful questions showed a genuine appetite to understand how decisions are made and who makes them.

“From debating issues that mattered to them to taking part in a vote, it was great to support their Parliament Week activities and to see how their step-by-step approach to learning about democracy is helping them realise how much their voice matters.”
