King’s Lynn Soroptimist International members support campaign to stop online violence and create safer digital spaces for women and girls

Club members have shown their support for a global initiative to end violence against women and girls.

The colour orange was chosen to symbolise the UN’s 16 Days of Activism campaign and Lynn Soroptimists International club members sported orange jumpers at a recent dinner and made a donation instead of sending Christmas cards to each other, which went to the London Anglia region’s work to mark UN Human Rights Day.

Every year, Soroptimists join the campaign held from November 25 to December 10. This year, Soroptimist clubs world-wide are focusing on preventing online violence and creating safer digital spaces for women and girls. The campaign highlights how online abuse happens and promotes practical ways to stay safe.

Online violence doesn’t stay online. What starts as digital harassment often escalates. Cyberstalking can lead to physical stalking, online threats create genuine fear and anxiety, and doxxing puts people’s safety at risk.

A club spokesperson said: “We should all use reporting tools to flag harmful content and behaviour online. Major social media platforms have reporting mechanisms designed to identify and address abuse, harassment, and harmful content.

“When you report inappropriate behaviour, you’re contributing to a safer online environment for everyone.”
