West Acre race nets more than £3,000 for King’s Lynn Night Shelter
Fundraising runners have made a donation to a charity which helps the homeless.
This year’s popular West Acre Wild 10K was dedicated to raising funds for King’s Lynn Night Shelter and a group of the organisers met at the St John’s House shelter for a tour of the premises.
The run, held in October, was the brainchild of farmer Alex Birbeck, who is also a keen environmentalist. Alex cleared a footpath around some of his farmland and thought it would be an ideal route for a race with a difference – with runners having a number of obstacles to negotiate.

This year’s run raised £3,800 which was handed to shelter director Lucy McKitterick who conducted the tour.
Race director Gary Walker said: “It’s great to know that our efforts go to a really good cause and will hopefully make a difference to those who would otherwise be sleeping rough, particularly at this time of year.
“I’m also sure all those who participate in our event will be pleased to know they have all contributed towards the night shelter.”
The run has proved so popular that next year’s event is already full.
