CCTV caught a thief’s handbag slowly filling up as she stole a number of items from a supermarket.

Nadnine Mitson, 36, of Middlewood in Fairstead, picked up a basket as she entered Sainsbury’s on Lynn’s Hardwick retail park on November 15.

She made her way around the store, placing various items inside before disappearing to a blind spot not covered by cameras.

When she came back into view, her basket was much emptier, and her handbag was much fuller.

Mitson paid for what remained and left the store.

On a later occasion, a police officer stopped her for a separate matter, then questioned her about the theft. She admitted she stole the goods, the value of which is unknown.

At Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Mitson pleaded guilty to theft from a shop and was handed a £40 fine, a £16 victim surcharge, and £55 in court costs.

In mitigation, solicitor George Sorrell explained that the defendant can hardly even remember the incident.

“It has been difficult to make ends meet, and in her own words, it was a bad decision,” he said.

“It really was a spur-of-the-moment thing.”
