Closing date for Carnegie library in King’s Lynn confirmed
A closing date for Lynn’s Carnegie library has been confirmed – with the opening of its town centre replacement pushed back again.
The existing library will close its doors on Saturday, February 14 as preparations begin for its relocation to the new site on New Conduit Street.
The new building’s opening will now take place at some point in March, having already been put back to February.

The library is moving to the former Argos building, which has been transformed into a modern public library and learning centre.
The new facility will offer expanded services across three floors, including flexible learning spaces, a training kitchen, and enhanced heritage resources.
“There will be a short period between the closure of the current library and the opening of the new site in March, allowing time for the move and final fit-out,” a Norfolk County Council spokesman said.

“Any items that have been borrowed from Lynn Library will be extended until the new library opens and regular groups will be run from alternative venues in the town where possible.
“Further updates, including the official opening date and transition arrangements, will be shared in due course. We thank our community for their patience and support during this exciting time of change.”
After the Carnegie library closes, the building will be retained for community use, with arts charity The Garage Trust set to take over the space.
It was opened in 1905 after being gifted to the town by industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
