Wisbech youngster spreads Christmas cheer at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn by donating toys to poorly children
A seven-year-old who spent most of 2025 as a patient at Lynn’s hospital has spread Christmas cheer to other children like himself.
Back in May, Jensen Hurcombe, from Wisbech, was diagnosed with severe aplastic anaemia, a serious blood disorder where his bone marrow fails to produce enough new blood cells.
After weeks of treatment and transfusions at the QEH, he finally underwent a stem cell transplant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in August.

Now back on his feet, he returned to the West Norfolk hospital laden with toys ready to be donated to children who will be spending the festive period in its wards.
“I feel happy to give these presents. I had fun when I was here with Karen. We played Uno and silly games,” he said.
The donations came as a result of a Facebook group set up by Jensen’s mum, Terri Betts, which she used to document her son’s journey and raise awareness of the condition.
Community support soon flooded in for the other poorly children, and a number of gifts were bought from Tesco in Wisbech, where staff also offered to help his cause.
“I wanted to do this because it could have been Jensen in hospital over Christmas,” Ms Betts said.
“Children deserve joy on Christmas Day, and it makes such a difference to parents during an incredibly difficult time.
“In 2025, Jensen has spent more days in hospital than not.”
Julie Bushby, communication champion from Wisbech Tesco, said: “We are so proud to have been able to support Jensen and help this worthy cause.”
Nicola Wright, play team specialist at the QEH, said: “I’d like to thank Jensen and his family for thinking of others despite their own circumstances.
“They are amazing, and we are very grateful.”
