King’s Lynn showman Nipper Appleton receives top award from Rotary of Great Britain and Ireland for ‘exceptional service’
A showman from Lynn has been recognised for his “exceptional service to the community”.
Nipper Appleton has been given the top award from Rotary of Great Britain and Ireland for his work with The Showman’s Guild, True’s Yard and Rotary.
Lawrence, or ‘Nipper’ as he has been known all his life, is a member of the Trinity Rotary Club of Lynn and is the chairman of the Eastern Region of the Showman’s Guild.

In recognition of his work with both organisations, he has been awarded the Rotary Paul Harris Medal, which is granted to members who have given exceptional service to the community and Rotary, and is named after the club’s founder.
Peter Harris, club president, said: “Nipper, for years, has organised ‘Kids Day Out’ at The Mart every year, where some 500 disadvantaged junior schoolchildren from Lynn enjoy free rides – something they may not otherwise be able to do.
“The club is very proud of what he does for children, and he could not be more deserving.”
Nipper said: “I am totally taken by surprise, I did not know about it. You do not think that what you do is extraordinary, but you only have to see the children’s faces when they are at The Mart and their delight. I am very humbled to receive the award, and I thank the club most sincerely”.
