King’s Lynn charity’s new project aims to provide meals and beat isolation

A charity which helps the armed forces community has received funding for a new initiative aimed at supporting older people.

King’s Lynn-based The Bridge for Heroes has launched Project Nourish & Connect – providing daily home-cooked meals, alongside opportunities to combat isolation and receive support.

The project has received funding from the Norfolk Community Foundation through its Connecting Older People Fund.

This will enable the charity to provide between 10 and 20 meals a day, six days a week, helping older veterans and their families reduce loneliness and isolation, while also supporting those on low incomes to manage their budgets effectively.

“We are thrilled to bring this project to our community,” said Helen Taylor, the charity’s chief executive.

“Project Nourish & Connect is about more than just meals – it’s about creating a welcoming space where our armed forces community can come together, share experiences and build lasting friendships.

“This support from Norfolk Community Foundation allows us to make a real difference in people’s lives every day.”

Claire Mackintosh, chief executive of Norfolk Community Foundation, added: “Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much-needed project that will make a real difference in the community. We wish them every success with their work.”

The community foundation is a registered charity, dedicated to building stronger communities and improving the lives of people in Norfolk by helping charities and voluntary groups to grow, provide essential care, support and opportunities for most vulnerable.

The Bridge for Heroes centre is at 52A South Clough Lane and it has extended an invitation to all members of the armed forces community to come along for a home-cooked meal and a friendly chat.

“If you’re part of the armed forces community, you’re warmly invited to join us at The Bridge for Heroes,” a spokesperson said.

The centre is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. Drop in or call 01553 760230. You can also get in touch via email: contact@thebridgeforheroes.org or the website: www.thebridgeforheroes.org
