A known drug user dropped his cocaine in front of police during a search.

Officers were arresting Neil Driver, 44, for a separate offence on September 25 when the plastic bag containing the Class A drug fell out of his clothing and landed on the floor.

Driver attempted to hide the item, claiming there was nothing in it. In reality, there was 0.9g of cocaine inside.

Appearing unrepresented at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Driver, of Ailmer Road in Gaywood, pleaded guilty to drug possession.

Prosecutor Ellen Connelly said he was a “known drug user” and that he gave no comment throughout his interview with officers.

Appearing in court unrepresented, Driver said: “I don’t get in trouble anymore. I haven’t been in trouble for a very long time.

“I’m not a regular drug user. I do it like once a month.

“It’s just for me, it’s not like dealing or anything like that.”

Magistrates handed him a £120 fine as well as a £48 victim surcharge.

No court costs were ordered due to his limited financial means.

The cocaine will be forfeited and destroyed.
