No restraining order for King’s Lynn 23-year-old David Pemment who jumped on ex-partner’s car and punched hole in her wardrobe

A man who jumped on his ex-partner’s car and punched a hole in her wardrobe has dodged a restraining order.

The victim and her young child were at her home in Lynn on May 12, 2024, when a heated argument erupted with her ex-partner, David Pemment.

She had asked him to leave after he slammed a door, to which he responded: “F*** you and your kid, I’ll do something to your car.”

Moments later, the mother spotted Pemment, 23, of Queen Elizabeth Avenue in Gaywood, jumping on top of her Vauxhall and booting the windscreen, causing it to shatter, before riding away on his bicycle.

However, it wasn’t her first volatile interaction with the defendant, as back in March, Pemment had lost his temper and punched a hole in her wardrobe.

In a victim impact statement read by prosecutor Jenny Holt at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, the woman said she was “nervous” about attending court – but was “determined to seek some justice” for her and her child.

Yet, by the end of the hearing, there was clear disappointment.

With six previous convictions to his name, Pemment pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage.

In mitigation, solicitor Tiffany Meredith explained that the defendant suffered from learning difficulties and “can’t read or write very well”.

Ms Holt was seeking compensation for the victim, as well as a restraining order to prevent him from contacting his ex-partner.

The magistrates, who retired to consider his sentence, came back and told Pemment he must pay the woman £197.18 for the damaged windscreen. However, no restraining order was made due to the time that had past since the offence took place.

As the victim left the courtroom, she was left shaking her head in anger, calling the result “b***s**t”.

In addition to the compensation, Pemment was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and will complete 80 hours of unpaid work as well as five rehabilitation activity days.

He will also pay a victim surcharge of £114, and court costs of £55.

The money will be deducted from his benefits alongside his £1,613 in outstanding fines.
