It won’t be a surprise to many to hear that a Labour leader has stepped down this week – but despite the increasing pressure he is under, it is not Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

The slightly lesser-known Cllr Francis Bone has relinquished the leadership of the Labour Group on West Norfolk Council because of work commitments.

Cllr Deborah Henneghan, who represents St Margarets with St Nicholas Ward in Lynn, has been voted in as the new leader, with Cllr Josh Osborne, who represents Downham Old Town ward, voted in as her deputy.

Talking to the Lynn news, Cllr Heneghan said: “I’d like to thank Fran for all that he has done as leader over the past two years. I am incredibly proud to be elected as the leader of a group that puts the communities they represent at the heart of everything they do.

“With the reorganisation of local councils, we are in the midst of a lot of change. I will be working hard with my deputy, Cllr Josh Osborne, and the Labour group to uphold the interests of our residents.”
