Extinction Rebellion to protest at King’s Lynn Town Hall again in fight against Reform bid for West Norfolk Council to scrap net zero targets
Climate protesters will take to the streets once again to fight Reform’s bid for West Norfolk Council to scrap net zero targets.
Extinction Rebellion will be back outside Lynn’s town hall on Thursday, January 29, opposing the party’s call.
The motion was initially submitted in November by Reform councillor Julian Kirk, proposing that council funds used for reaching environmental targets could be used to protect the “poorest and most vulnerable residents” instead.

However, he later asked for it to be put off until the end of January so amendments could be made.
At the time, activists stood outside that hall with placards in protest.
It is unclear what the revised bid will include, but Reform councillor Austen Moore, who represents North Lynn, told the Lynn News the motion is about “doing nothing”.

“It’s about focusing on becoming more resilient to changes,” he said.
However, West Norfolk Extinction Rebellion has stood its ground on the policies, highlighting the positives it has brought to the area.
“Our actions were hugely influential in the council declaring a climate emergency in 2021, following which they’ve implemented a range of decarbonisation policies and attracted an additional £17million in funding to our region,” a spokesperson said.
“Our small protest in November was also influential in Reform withdrawing their motion.
“They will be back, and the progress the council has made is under severe threat, but we know we have the power to stop them.”
Cllr Moore declined to comment further on the motion – but said: “They absolutely have the right to protest and to voice their opinions, as we all do.
“Freedom of speech is something we should all cherish and protect.
“Once they see the full details of what we are proposing, they may be more supportive, and I would welcome their feedback.
“It’s difficult to get 100% agreement on anything in life, so finding common ground and areas of compromise is positive”.
Cllr Julian Kirk has been approached for comment.
