An author and trust founder gave an “inspiring and entertaining” talk to group members.

Antonia Hayes was the guest speaker at a meeting of Soroptimist International King’s Lynn where she spoke about her lifelong love of books which led her to working in a bookshop and then a career in publishing.

She had always kept a diary and after taking a short writing course produced her first book ‘Relativity’.

The manuscript attracted six bidders at auction and since then, she has published a book of essays and has a new book in the pipeline – reading an extract from it to members.

Members heard Antonia was born in Australia and lived in Sydney, Paris, California and London before moving to Lynn with her husband and children.

She set up the Margery Kempe Trust in the town with her husband and others, to promote life writing and storytelling in Lynn including running weekly creative writing sessions at the library. The group also work with the Forward Day Centre and has plans for outreach in the villages.

A club spokesperson said members tried their hand at writing – all producing a short piece on the origin of their name.

“It was a great evening and an inspiring and entertaining session,” the spokesperson said.
