Community spirit sees thousands raised from King’s Lynn firewalk

A total of 18 worthy causes have been given a boost thanks to the efforts of firewalkers.

The firewalk, held last month at Lynnsport, raised an amazing £32,062 with the grand total being revealed on Thursday at a publicity evening held at The Farmers on the outskirts of Lynn.

The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Lynn Priory Satellite and a spokesperson said: “After all event costs were covered, the grand total raised stands at an impressive £32,062.

“These funds will now be distributed amongst the 18 charities represented in the event, with each charity receiving a share of the total proportionate to the funds raised by their team, and an additional £100 donation from Rotary King’s Lynn Priory Satellite as a thank you for their involvement and community impact.”

The recipients are: Make Seconds Count, West Norfolk Autism, Heacham Parish Church, Little Miracles, ShelterBox, the Peddars Unit at the town’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, The Big C, Macmillan Cancer Centre (QEH), Tapping House hospice, Prostate Cancer UK, Breast of Friends, The Purfleet Trust, 8:56 Foundation, Home-Start Norfolk, Little Discoverers, One to One Project, Forward Day Centre, Lynn Night Shelter and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder support).

The Firewalk brought together brave walkers, charity teams, volunteers, sponsors and supporters from across the region.

The publicity evening was an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding total raised and the powerful community spirit behind it.

Anna Mace, of Rotary Priory Satellite said: “This firewalk has shown what happens when a community unites behind its charities.

“Every participant and supporter helped raise an extraordinary amount that will directly benefit organisations doing vital work across West Norfolk and beyond. We are proud to support each charity, including our £100 gift to acknowledge their commitment and contribution.”

Sponsors and supporters have been thanked for their generosity, services and contributions which helped to create a “safe, uplifting and memorable experience for everyone taking part” the club said.

Planning is already underway for the next Rotary Priory event which is the Swimarathon taking place on February 7.
