Decision on bus lane for Hardwick Road in King’s Lynn is yet to be made
A decision on whether a new bus lane will be added to a key town road has yet to be made.
Norfolk County Council revealed plans for the addition to Hardwick Road in Lynn back in July last year, launching a public consultation.
The authority said the proposed £360,000 improvements would cut journey times and ease traffic between the Hardwick and Southgates roundabouts.

However, more than six months on, the scheme remains under review.
“No final decision on this project has been made as we are still assessing the benefits for bus users and the potential impact to general traffic,” a council spokesperson told the Lynn News.
“It is therefore unlikely that any physical works will begin before spring this year.

“This timeframe is subject to both internal approvals and the successful completion of the formal traffic regulation order process.”
If approval had been agreed, it was originally planned for construction to begin early this year.
The bus lane, if it does go ahead, is expected to run from the junction of the rail bridge to the junction of Horsley’s Fields.
The idea proved controversial among residents, with many pointing out that both Hardwick Road lanes heading into Lynn are often both full at peak travel times – so forcing traffic into a single lane would make matters even worse.
