Plans for new padel courts and café in King’s Lynn

Plans for new padel courts and an adjoining café have been submitted.

CBF Architectural hopes to bring the fast-growing sport to Lynn, and is seeking planning permission for the new facility at Campbell’s Meadow on the Hardwick retail park.

The firm want to change the use of an existing industrial building to provide six padel tennis courts, a café and additional social space.

The sport is experiencing significant growth and popularity across the UK, and the number of participants is believed to hae risen from approximately 15,000 in 2019 to more than 400,000 by late 2024.

The nearest courts to Lynn are currently in Fakenham, while there are also plans for similar facilities at Heacham Manor Hotel which have been awaiting approval since being submitted last September.

A planning statement submitted as part of the Campbell’s Meadow application says: “The proposed development will bring a high-quality indoor sporting facility to Lynn, promoting health and wellbeing, supporting local employment, and making effective use of an existing building within an established employment area.”

It adds: “The proposal involves no external alterations, maintains existing access, parking and landscaping arrangements, and accords with the (borough council) development plan and national planning policy. Planning permission should therefore be granted.”
