King’s Lynn firefighter John Linden denied chance to have employment tribunal case reconsidered
A fireman sacked for throwing a disabled man’s phone has been denied a chance to have his employment tribunal case reconsidered over claims that bosses failed to accommodate for his own disability.
Former Lynn station manager John Linden, who was fired after getting into a row with a member of the public at the scene of a fire, had applied for a review of his case last year.
The senior fireman won a claim that he was unfairly dismissed by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service in 2024 for the incident at Harding’s Pit in South Lynn.

However, he wanted the tribunal to give him a second chance to argue his employer failed to make reasonable adjustments for his disability.
Mr Linden’s case centres on an incident caught on video.
He appeared to throw Jimmy Evans’ phone over a hedge in footage captured by the YouTuber, who makes videos under the name Wheelz Media.

It followed the pair getting into an argument when Mr Evans refused to move away from the scene of the fire.
The firefighter claimed he reacted in a heightened state to perceived threatening behaviour from Mr Evans due to his post traumatic stress disorder, which he has been diagnosed with.
Mr Linden also said he was not given additional training to handle confrontations with members of the public, which are reportedly becoming more and more frequent for firefighters.
However, the tribunal panel did not find the fire service had discriminated against him or failed to accommodate his disability.
Mr Linden asked for this to be reconsidered, putting forward fresh evidence.
But an employment judge has dismissed the claim, arguing the new submissions put forward “had no reasonable prospect of success” and that there is a public interest in “finality” of litigation.
