King’s Lynn Players set to bring performance of The History Boys to Springwood High School

Rehearsals are in full swing for a performing arts group’s next production, promising to bring a moving yet funny show to town.

King’s Lynn Players members are looking forward to bringing The History Boys to the stage at Springwood High School’s drama studio.

The play is set in the 1980s in a state school where the headmaster is keen to get more pupils into Oxford and Cambridge, in order to compete with other schools and raise its profile.

It follows eight bright boys who stay on for another year to sit scholarship exams taught by Hector, who refuses to be corseted to the English curriculum, and new teacher Irwin, who is determined to get them through the exams at all costs.

Director Tom Watson is very familiar with the play and was part of the Players’ 2010 production when he played the character Scripps.

He said: “I am so happy to be back in the funny, complicated, and surprisingly moving world of The History Boys.

“Everyone has worked incredibly hard on it, and we’d love to see full houses across the run, so book your tickets now.”

Shows will be taking place from Wednesday, March 11 to Saturday, March 14, with shows starting at 7pm.

An added matinee performance will take place at 2pm on Saturday.
