King’s Lynn is in ‘early stages’ of being twinned with US city named after town
Lynn is in the early stages of potentially being twinned with an American city named after the town, thanks to a councillor’s efforts.
It was the idea of Cllr Steve Everett, who was on holiday in the United States, when he came across Lynn, a city located in Massachusetts.
Cllr Everett then thought it would be a good idea to introduce a twinship between the two Lynns and decided to take action to make it become a reality.

“I went over to Salem, just up the road from Boston, and stopped there and saw there was a city of Lynn when I was planning my journey,” Cllr Everett said.
Cllr Everett said he approached the mayor of Lynn, Massachusetts, Jared Nicholson, and asked if he wanted to discuss a collaboration.
Lynn, Massachusetts, is named after King’s Lynn, and received its name in 1637 to honour Reverend Samuel Whiting, the first official minister of the settlement, who came from the West Norfolk town.

“We met up, and I took a gift over from our mayor Andy Bullen, and I was introduced to their community,” he said.
“It was actually they who brought up the idea of a twinship.”
Cllr Everett says West Norfolk Council is set to discuss the matter further soon, and that process is in “very early stages”.
He hopes that the twinship will bring more tourism to West Norfolk.
“The Americans like Shakespeare, and we have the Guildhall,” he said.
“They are very interested in our culture.”
Lynn, Massachusetts, is situated on the Atlantic Ocean and is the largest city in Essex County. It has a population of 103,000 people.
King’s Lynn is primarily twinned with Emmerich am Rhein in Germany.
The twinning relationship, often supported by the King’s Lynn Emmerich Twinning Club, involves regular exchange visits.
