A pub which only announced its closure over the weekend is set to reopen under a new team.

The Swan in South Wootton was forced to shut down on Saturday amid rising costs and a “challenging economic climate”.

Despite discussions with its landlord company, Stonegate Group, the business was unable to find any long-term arrangements and had to empty the property.

However, Stonegate has now confirmed that it will be reopening “in the near future” as a new publican has been found to take the reins.

Yesterday, before that confirmation, a spokesperson had told the Lynn News: “The previous publican has exited the business and as a result, the pub will remain shut for a short period.

“We’re currently in the process of recruiting a new publican to run the premises. We’re hoping to reopen in the near future as soon as possible.”

A timeline for the reopening remains unclear.

A statement released by the previous tenants over the weekend said: “Like many pubs across the country, we’ve faced an incredibly challenging economic climate over the past year.

“Rising costs across energy, food and drink, wages, business rates and general overheads have made it increasingly difficult for independent operators to keep sites like The Swan sustainable.”
