Schools in King’s Lynn and surrounding villages close as a result of snow and ice

Several schools in West Norfolk have closed today due to icy conditions.

Temperatures remained below zero overnight, causing many roads and paths to stay frozen.

The Met Office issued a weather warning that remains in place until the end of today, and it is not expected to get warmer anytime soon.

Five schools in West Norfolk have chosen to close today, on what should have been their first day back after the Christmas break.

Broken boilers due to freezing temperatures are listed as reasons for some of the closures.

Meanwhile, early morning rail commuters faced more frustration as all of the trains leaving Lynn before 8.15am were cancelled.

Those travelling on main roads have faced fewer issues than yesterday, but it is still a struggle for motorists travelling on untreated roads.

Find a list below of West Norfolk schools that are closed today:

Greenpark Academy, Lynn: Heating failure in the main school building. School closed for children from Reception to Year 6. Online learning will be provided via Class Dojo. The nursery will still be open as this building is unaffected.

Rudham Church of England Primary Academy: Due to no hot water, the school is unable to open. Emails and text messages were sent to parents. Remote learning via online systems.

The Fen Rivers Academy, Lynn: Following a health and safety site risk assessment, the “difficult decision” has been made to close the school due to compacted snow and ice on the approach roads and once on site. A decision will be made tomorrow regarding operations on Wednesday in light of site safety and the weather forecast.

Upwell Academy: The school has closed due to a boiler failure. There is no heating or hot water. Updates will follow for parents via email.

West Walton Community Primary School: Due to an unexpected major heating fault, the school will be fully closed for emergency repairs.
