Heacham stalker Christine Scott sent thousands of emails to cousin’s husband after their 12-year affair ended

A woman who was having an affair with her cousin’s husband has been convicted of stalking after bombarding him with calls and emails.

Christine Scott, 54, of Station Road in Heacham, hounded her victim for months when he broke off their relationship, leaving him with 2,361 emails and 188 unwanted calls.

She appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where she was handed a 12-month restraining order, an £80 fine, a £30 victim surcharge and court costs of £110 for the ordeal.

Prosecutor Jessica Neequaye told the court that the incidents started back in February, two months after Scott’s “on and off” relationship with her cousin’s husband ended.

Prior to that, the defendant told the victim that she had cancer and wanted to “smooth things over”, so the pair arranged to meet up.

During the interaction, she snapped a photograph of the victim and sent it to a family group chat, which led to him breaking off the relationship.

From then until May, she harassed him and his work colleagues with emails and calls from withheld numbers.

On some occasions, the defendant labelled the man’s daughter a number of derogatory terms, including “re***d”, “sp****c” and “sp*z”. She admitted in court that this was “unacceptable”.

In a victim impact statement, the man said he came close to a divorce.

However, in mitigation, solicitor Sally Dale hinted that he only had himself to blame.

“They had an ongoing relationship for 12 years – it’s bound to cause problems with his marriage,” she said.

“That’s not the defendant’s fault, that’s his fault. He’s the married man, not the defendant.”

Ms Dale added that it “wouldn’t have been difficult” for the victim to change his number.
