Proposals for new standalone King’s Lynn swimming pool are gathering strong support
Proposals for a new standalone swimming pool at Lynnsport are gathering strong support ahead of a public meeting next week.
A Facebook group backing the proposed new aquatic centre in Lynn now has more than 300 members after launching shortly before Christmas.
The group, named Support the New Pool Proposal for King’s Lynn, was established by Simon Rose, chairman of West Norfolk Swimming Club, to bring together community support for a modern replacement for the St James Pool.

West Norfolk Council is currently exploring the feasibility of building a new standalone swimming pool, having originally suggested knocking down existing facilities such as part of the bowls rink.
Mr Rose stressed that the Facebook group is open to all potential users, not just swimming club members. This includes schools, learn-to-swim programmes, aqua aerobics participants, triathletes, schools, sub-aqua divers and the wider public.
He has scheduled a public meeting to show support for the proposal for 7.30pm on Thursday next week (January 29) at the existing St James pool.

“This proposal represents the kind of high-quality facility the town needs and deserves,” Mr Rose said.
“It will support competitive swimming while remaining firmly focused on the wider community, expanding learn-to-swim provision, improving public access and offering family-friendly features such as a dedicated splash area.”
Mr Rose and fellow swimming club members say they are pleased the borough council listened to those who took part in the public consultation around the original proposals and now feel it is “right to ensure that the positivity around the revised scheme is heard loud and clear by the council cabinet when they meet in March”.
The public meeting next week will aim to “demonstrate public backing for the scheme and help shape ideas to present” to the council.
The swimming club has also voiced support for a proposed adapted sports hub, which could be developed at the Lynnsport site alongside the pool.
