Illegal immigrants caught in King’s Lynn during police’s road crime crackdown

Officers caught two men who were in the UK illegally as part of an operation targeting fraudulent driving licences and documents.

Operation Foxtail action days have taken place in Lynn, Watton and Thetford, led by PC Josh Preston in a bid to disrupt organised and serious crime on Norfolk’s roads.

They are funded by the Home Office Terminus fund, which focuses on organised immigration crime road operations.

Officers from the joint roads policing team, commercial vehicle unit, Moonshot (ANPR Team) and eastern region specialist operation unit were joined by Immigration Enforcement and HMRC.

Some of the offences which led to arrest included drug-driving (four), drink-driving (one), counterfeit driving licences (three) and immigration overstayers/absconders (16) – while 47 traffic offence reports were also issued across the three days and 30 vehicles were seized as a result.

As a part of the Lynn enforcement, officers stopped two men who were identified as being in the country illegally.

The driver has committed multiple traffic offences and absconded from immigration. He was arrested and remanded in custody.

Speaking about the operation, PC Preston said: “These operations give is the opportunity to combat multiple channels of criminality.

“We are able to disrupt and dismantle organised criminal operations linked to drugs and human trafficking, protecting those who are most vulnerable.

“Having multiple departments working together in cohesion also allows us to provide a strong visible deterrent and take immediate action against those who choose to offend in Norfolk.”
